Text: Joel 2:25, 1 Sam 30: 1 – 19
David and his men were distressed and disappointed only to return to their land and found their wives and children taken into captivity. His men thought of stoning him but David did three things that brought about their recovery.
- Prayer – David inquired of the Lord: 1 Sam 30: 8 – Do you want recovery? Then, you must be a man or woman of prayer. We have a generation of Christians that do not pray. Many only pray when they come to Church. We must be men and women given to prayers. The Bible says and David inquired of the Lord. You must learn to pray before challenges come. Many are like microwave Christians today. Two minutes of prayer and they are up. David asked the Lord what next step he needs to take. Lord, what must I do in this situation to have my breakthrough? We must learn to ask God for a solution. Talk to men instead of men. Men may only sympathise with you but God will give you a solution. As you pray to God, ask him what you need to do over every situation. You cannot recover all if your prayer altar is dead. We must vitalise your prayer altar. David inquired and inquired of the Lord. We must inquire of the Lord.
- Purging – You must do away with some people and things in life if you want to get to your destination. David did not let the weak 200 men stop him from pursuing the captors. He would have lost the mission if he had allowed the two hundred men that were weak to slow him down – 1 Sam 30: 9-10. If you want to fulfil destiny, you must purge out some people from your life. People who lure you into sin, you must do away with them if you want to fulfil destiny. It might be painful but in the end, it is profitable. A man without a spare tyre should not drive roughly – you have only one life and you cannot afford to toy with it. Don’t let anybody distract you. Purge anyone that does not believe in you. It does not mean that you will not make contact but you should not allow them to influence your decision. Anyone, anything, and any habit that will not let you get to your destination purge them away.
- Pursue – You must go after and pursue: 1 Sam 30:10. After God spoke, David pursued. Do you want to recover? Then you must be ready to pursue in the right direction. Speed is inconsequential in the wrong direction. You do not sit down and expect recovery to come to you – no! You must get up and pursue. David and his men pursued after the captors. Some people will never recover because they will never pursue. Many just sit down and wait for God to act. We cannot recover that way – we have to rise and pursue like David and his men. After God spoke, David pursued. You have to engage in a fight to recover. Give it your best and be active in your pursuit of recovery. For every area of interest, you want to recover, pursue in that direction. Beloved, what area do you want to recover, begin to take active steps in that direction. Do you want to experience economic recovery? Then pay your debts and so so with intense pursuits. When God sees your willingness to pay and be free from debts, He will make the means available for you. You cannot be owing people money and refuse to pay and yet you are expecting a financial recovery, no it does not work that way. Do your best to pay your debts. You want a change of career; pursue the right courses and study. Be willing and ready to fight. Take active steps and the Lord will support your efforts.
God Bless You!
