Text: John 18: 35 – 37, 1: 19-23

To rediscover is to recover what has been hidden or unknown before. Jesus said to Pilate, for this cause was I born. We get to a point in our lives where we will be asked who we are. When the question comes that who are you? It is not about your name but your identity. Jesus said for this cause did I come into this world. John the Baptist was asked the same question … who are thou? In Luke 4:16-22, there was also a classical example of the same question on identity.

Jesus found his purpose in the book written by Prophet Isaiah about Him. When you find your purpose in life, not everybody will be happy with you but if you must fulfil destiny, you must stand in the conviction of your purpose. When we were born, we look like our parents but from the age of 18, we look at our decisions. Never say because you were not trained by your parents. Your parents are not the reason why you are where you are but your decisions. In Jer 1:5, the Bible says “Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee…” God knew us before we were born and has ordained us for a cause. Locate your purpose in God. God’s original plan for creating you is your purpose. Until we locate our purpose in God, we will just live as a nonentity. Purpose is different from ambition. Ambition is what you coined for yourself from your head. God has given each and everyone purpose. Purpose is to find your place in life and destiny. When you discover your purpose, you will gain glory. We complain about our bodies because we have not discovered purpose. When you know your purpose, your physic is inconsequential. Your colour, height, education are not important.

Not every one of us is expected to be PhD holder. No! Many times, the occurrences in our lives point us towards the purpose of God for our lives but most times, due to our insensitivity. Luke 11:33-34. When we discover our purpose in life, we will be focused. The issue today is that many out there do not know their purpose. When you do not know your purpose, everything seems like it. Every man and woman of relevance today was focused. Do you want to make a difference; you must discover your purpose and be focused. Ps 40:7-8. Purpose is not something you invent or create. There is something about you that you must discover. Speak to your creator about it. When you know your purpose in life, every morning you will be excited about it. You will not be cajoled to do the work. When you are unhappy with your work, then, that is not where you need to be. Take time to speak with God. Inquire from the Lord. Before you were sent into your family line, God saw a need in your family that you are meant to solve.

Purpose is finding and doing what you were created for to bring glory to God, impacting humanity and fulfilment. You were created to fulfil an assignment. Look out for that assignment, which is purpose. Anything you do that you do not find satisfaction or fulfilment that is not your purpose.

We must be sensitive towards what our children are doing. Look at what they love to do and be supportive. There was already a plan by God concerning our plan.

Pointers to Purpose

How do we find purpose?

  1. Passion: what do you love doing? Some of us can do some things exceptionally even when we are tired. What are the things you love to do? If you were to write one book in your life, what would be the title of the book? That could be a pointer to your purpose. What are you passionate about? It could be a pointer to your purpose. Your purpose and assignment is part of what you were created to do. The world is looking for a problem solver but when you find a purpose, every other thing does not count. Everybody is meant to solve an issue in life.
  2. What you do effortlessly is a pointer to your purpose. If you are asked to write three things you are gifted in doing effortlessly? That could be a pointer to your purpose and calling. Your pain can be a pointer to your life assignment. Challenge yourself to locate and develop yourself towards your purpose. If you feel comfortable about everything in life, then you will not go far. When everything in the world is perfect before you, then you are just existing and not living. Your purpose is the assignment you are created to solve.

God bless you!
