Text: Joel 2: 7- 8, Matt 6:22
Focus is total commitment and absorption in a particular assignment. It is the ability to look unwavering without distraction. It is to concentrate on something attentively to gain clarity. No one ever gets anything worthwhile in life by accident. There is a gold mine in every goal mind. Life can only be dynamic and progressive when it is specific. You have to be focused. When you are distracted here and there, you cannot focus on life.
Your enemy is anyone or anything who breaks your focus on your God-given assignment.
Your friend is someone that helps you focus on your God-given assignment. 1Kgs20: 39-40 – there are too many people here and there. The easiest way to kill a man’s goal is to give him another goal. Focus people do not do good things, they do the right thing. I go on what to do as if there is nothing else in the world to do. A focused man does not see obstacles. People see obstacles because they are too busy looking at many things.
When you are buried in your assignment, you will not see obstacles. Keep your face in the sunshine and you will not see the shadow. Focus people do not allow men to distract them. It is not enough to be busy. Many are busy but not effective. Business is not equal to effectiveness. What enhances effectiveness is focus! 1 Cor 9:16 – Apostle Paul knew what he was called to do. Rom 1:16. A man of focus has something that drives him.
What fuels our focus?
To be focused, we must:
1. Look at the future – a man that focuses on the future does not see present distractions. If we all look at the future, there won’t be room for distractions – Phil 3:14. Our focus is our future. What we focus on will multiply in our lives.
2. Avoid distractions – Distractions are side attractions seeking your attention in order to stop you from reaching your destination.
3. Watch what you hear, see and meditate upon – focus people don’t see anything else apart from the goal. When you are focused, you will not see offences. You will not see distractions. If you see a man or woman everywhere, then he/she is not focused. A person of focus cannot be seen everywhere because he/she must be committed to the assignment at hand. Mark 4:24
4. Keep the right people around you – Permit only relationships that will increase your focus on your assignment in life. If you want to be successful in life, you have no business with someone who will not help you actualise your goal. Pro 27:17, Pro 13:20. When wrong people leave your life, wrong things stop happening. Pro 13:20 – he that works with the wise shall be wise. To be focused in life, spend more time with those in need – Mark 10:28-30
5. Do not allow wrong ambition to mix with your vision – ambition is what we want while vision is what God wants for us. Be focused and go for knowledge. It will make a difference in your life. In your different field, go for knowledge. When you are knowledgeable in your field, it will keep shame away. Be focused and you will surely get to the top.
