Text: 1 Thess 5:18
What is Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is acknowledging God over everything. It is the mystery of the kingdom. It is an extremely potent spiritual weapon in the hands of the one who can use it. Be faithful in the little things God has committed into your hands. In doing that seemingly little things, greater things will emerge. God has a day of reward for every man. Do all you have to do with the whole of your heart. Thanksgiving is an application for more. When we give proper thanks, we are asking for more. God will give us a taste to see our gratitude. When we are, then He will release His best next into us. Are we thankful for that little one we have received from God? Give God thanks for everything.
Benefits of Thanksgiving
- Thanksgiving gives us access to fresh oil – Ps 89:20. Why was David anointed above his Brethren? He was a praise addict. David praised God 7 times a day – Ps 119:164. That shows consistency. No wonder God chose him over King Saul. What is our praise routine? When it comes to praise, drop your fine boy or girl and dance unto the Lord undignifiedly. Put your status aside.
- It provokes God to take over our battles – Ps 92:11
- It gives us access to God’s presence – Ps 16:11
- It preserves and multiplies the blessings – John 6:11. Jesus gave thanks for the five lives and two fishes, and they were multiplied.
- It perfects the blessings – Lk 17:11-19. The one leper who came to give thanks was made whole.
- It empowers the believer to be fruitful even in old age – Ps 92:14
Why should I give thanks?
- It is a command 1 Thess 5:18
- Because it is what happened that we know: what could have happened, we don’t know because God prevented it. The enemy will look for a million reasons to be ungrateful but always look for a reason to give God thanks. You are not better than those in the grave.
- The source will dry up – Luke 17:19
- The blessing can be turned into a curse – Mal 2:2-3
- It can lead believers into captivity Jer 13:15-17
How can I give God thanks acceptably?
- From your heart –
- Let gratitude well up from your heart for all that God has done
- Begin to remember all that God has done and is doing
Shalom!
